Agent Runtime

Definition

The execution environment that runs an agent, invokes models and tools, and manages its lifecycle. A runtime may provide scheduling, isolation, state storage, and recovery.

Why it matters for your business

Determines where an agent operates, what resources it can access, and what happens if it stops or fails.

In practice

A hosted runtime starts a research agent, supplies its approved browser tools, and records progress between work sessions.

How it differs from related terms

A model generates outputs. A harness controls the agent loop and behavior around that model. A runtime supplies the environment in which that harness executes; products may bundle both.
