Your Team Is Already Searching. Now Make It Secure.
We wrote about switching from Google to Perplexity for our research workflows last August. Since then, clients started asking the obvious next question: "Can our whole team use this without creating a data privacy nightmare?"
The answer, as of early 2025, is yes. Perplexity Enterprise Pro is a legitimate team-grade research platform with real data privacy controls, and it has matured faster than we expected. We have recommended it to four clients in the past three months, alongside Claude for their building and analysis work, and every deployment has gone smoothly.
This is our honest review. Perplexity Enterprise Pro is good. It is not perfect. And understanding where it fits in your AI stack matters more than whether it exists at all.
The question is no longer whether your team should use AI for research. They already are. The question is whether they are doing it on free accounts that train on your data, or on a platform you actually control.
What Perplexity Enterprise Pro Actually Offers
Enterprise Pro is Perplexity's business tier, priced at $40 per user per month (or $400 annually). It is built on the same search engine that powers the consumer product, but with the security, privacy, and team management features that businesses require.
The most important feature is the data privacy guarantee: Perplexity does not use Enterprise customer data to train their models. Uploaded files are retained for only seven days. This is a meaningful differentiator from the free tier, where -- like every other free AI tool -- your inputs may be used for model improvement. We have written extensively about why this matters in our guide on shadow AI risks.
Spaces are shared workspaces where teams organize research by project, topic, or client. Everyone on the team can ask questions and get answers grounded in shared context and uploaded documents. For consulting teams like ours, this is invaluable. We can set up a Space for each client engagement, upload relevant documents, and anyone on the team can research against that context.
Internal knowledge search is the feature that turns Perplexity from a web search tool into a team knowledge base. You can upload PDFs, documents, and files into Spaces, and Perplexity will search across both the open web and your internal files simultaneously. The answers cite both external sources and your uploaded documents, so you always know where the information came from.
The Three-Tier Breakdown
Understanding which tier makes sense for your team requires looking beyond the price tag. Here is what you actually get at each level:
| Feature | Free | Pro ($20/mo) | Enterprise ($40/user/mo) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pro Search | 5/day | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| Data Training | May train on inputs | May train on inputs | Never trains on data |
| File Upload | Limited | Expanded | Up to 10,000 files (Max tier) |
| Spaces | Basic | Standard | Team Spaces with 5,000 files each |
| SSO / Admin | No | No | SSO, SCIM, audit logs, admin dashboard |
| Compliance | None | None | SOC 2, data retention controls |
The jump from Pro to Enterprise is not just about features. It is about the data privacy guarantee. If your team handles client data, financial information, or anything proprietary, the Enterprise tier is the only option that provides a contractual commitment not to train on your inputs. That matters. We explain exactly why in our data privacy guide for small businesses.
How We Recommend It Alongside Claude
Perplexity Enterprise and Claude are not competitors in our client deployments. They serve fundamentally different functions, and the combination is more powerful than either alone.
Perplexity Enterprise handles research and discovery. Finding information, verifying facts, monitoring competitors, scanning regulatory changes, synthesizing market data. Everything where you need to search the web or internal documents and get a cited, verifiable answer.
Claude handles analysis, creation, and execution. Processing documents, writing proposals, building agents, coding integrations, automating workflows. Everything where you need to take information and do something with it.
The workflow looks like this: research with Perplexity, build with Claude. A client asks us to evaluate a new market opportunity. We use Perplexity Enterprise to pull competitive intelligence, market sizing data, and regulatory requirements -- all with cited sources we can share with the client. Then we feed that research into Claude to produce the strategic analysis, build the financial model, and draft the recommendation deck.
This is not theoretical. We have deployed this exact stack with clients in professional services, real estate, and consulting. The feedback has been consistent: the research phase that used to take days now takes hours.
What Enterprise Customers Are Saying
Perplexity Enterprise Pro is used by companies including Stripe, Zoom, Databricks, Snowflake, and Vercel. That is a meaningful roster. These are companies with serious security requirements and dedicated compliance teams. Their adoption signals that the enterprise security story holds up under scrutiny.
In our own client deployments, the adoption curve has been fast. Research-heavy roles -- business development, consulting, strategy, legal research -- see immediate value. The tool requires almost no training because the interface is identical to asking a question. The learning curve is essentially zero for anyone who has used a search engine.
The best AI tools are the ones your team actually uses. Perplexity Enterprise succeeds here because it requires zero behavior change. You search the way you always have. You just get better answers.
Where It Falls Short
Team size limits. Enterprise Pro supports up to 250 members. For most SMBs, that is plenty. For larger organizations, it may require coordination with Perplexity's sales team for custom arrangements.
Integration ecosystem is thin. Unlike Claude, which integrates with virtually any system through the API and MCP servers, Perplexity Enterprise has limited integration options. You cannot easily plug it into existing workflows the way you can with Claude or even ChatGPT Enterprise. It is a standalone tool, not a platform.
No building capabilities. We keep coming back to this because clients keep asking. Perplexity finds information. It does not build agents, write code, process documents, or automate workflows. If you need those capabilities, you need Claude alongside it. Perplexity is the research layer, not the execution layer.
Cost adds up. At $40 per user per month, a team of 25 is paying $12,000 per year. That is reasonable for a research tool that replaces hours of manual work, but it requires honest ROI calculation. For teams that do research sporadically, the Pro tier at $20 per month per individual may be sufficient even if it lacks the data privacy guarantee.
Our Verdict
Perplexity Enterprise Pro is the best team research tool available as of May 2025. The data privacy guarantee alone makes it the only responsible choice for teams handling sensitive information. The search quality, citation system, and Spaces collaboration features make it genuinely useful beyond just being "secure."
We recommend it to every client who has research as a core part of their operations, paired with Claude for everything that comes after the research phase. That combination -- Perplexity for finding, Claude for building -- is the AI research stack we trust for production work.
If you are currently relying on free AI accounts for team research, the pricing comparison makes the case clearly. The cost of Enterprise Pro is a fraction of the liability risk from uncontrolled data exposure on free tiers. That math is not even close.
